Vision: The Oliva Fund for Cancer Care was established in 2007 in honor of Milford’s Oliva Family for their ongoing commitment and generous support of Milford Regional Medical Center and Milford Regional Healthcare Foundation.
Goals:
- Assist cancer patients and their families to alleviate expenses incurred during cancer treatment and recovery in the form of gift cards for basic necessities.
- Provide specialty products that may not be covered by insurance, which support care and recovery such as wigs, bras, prosthetics and integrative therapies, e.g., massage. Medical experts worldwide have come to view integrative therapies as effective compliments to surgery, chemotherapy, radiation and recovery.
- Offer emotional and clinical support to cancer patients and their families such as palliative care services, pastoral care, support groups, and Dana-Farber’s Adult Survivorship Program.
Services currently provided by the Oliva Fund, including but not limited to: Comfort Carts, Gift Cards, Massage, Mindfulness Meditation, Nutrition, Palliative Care, Pastoral Care, Smoking Cessation, Specialty Products, Support Groups, Transportation, Cancer related materials, events and activities such as care notes, Tree of Life and Cancer Survivors Day.
How Patients & Families Receive Support:
Through donated funds, the staff at UMass Memorial Health – Milford Regional Medical Center and Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center at Milford Regional can offer assistance to patients to alleviate financial hardship while providing access to services and therapies in support of treatment and recovery.
Patients can request support through their health care team. Physicians, nurses, social workers, and the nurse navigator can identify a patient in need and provide gift cards, items, or services.
We continue to expand the services to patients and families to accommodate their evolving needs in support of recovery.
